Jaggi Vasudev, later known as Sadhguru, was born into a Telugu-speaking family in Mysuru, Karnataka, India. His father was an ophthalmologist for Indian Railways, which meant the family frequently moved, exposing young Jaggi to diverse environments. From an early age, he displayed a deep connection with nature and an unconventional approach to learning, often preferring to spend time in the forest over formal schooling.
- 1957, Mysuru: Born Jagadish Vasudev on September 3rd, the youngest of four children.
- Early Childhood: Developed a keen interest in nature, spending significant time exploring forests and observing wildlife.
- Schooling: Attended Demonstration School and Mahajana Pre-University College in Mysuru, though his academic focus was often secondary to his experiential learning.
- Age 11: Began practicing a form of hatha yoga under the guidance of Malladihalli Sri Raghavendra Swamiji, a significant early influence.
These early experiences fostered a profound sense of inquiry and an independent spirit, laying the groundwork for his later spiritual journey. His natural inclination towards exploration and direct experience over rote learning defined his formative years and set him apart from his peers.
